1. PUTRA OUTREACH 1.0 @ SK ULU SEGAN PROGRAMME

The Putra Outreach 1.0 Programme is a student service programme of Universiti Putra Malaysia Bintulu Sarawak Campus (UPMKB) organised by the Supreme Council of Students of Sri Rajang College. This programme is supported by various parties who have come forward to contribute cash and other needs to make this programme a success. This program introduces the use of solar power system for daily use and the method of installation to all participants.

This program is focused on schools that do not have electricity supply where UPMKB would like to share information related to solar energy as well as conduct ancillary activities with the school's PTA. A total of 30 student volunteers from UPMKB were involved in this program. Around Bintulu there are 7 schools that still do not have electricity, among which is Sekolah Kebangsaan Ulu Segan which we chose as it is only 35 KM away from UPMKB.

Various activities were carried out throughout the programme, among which were talks on solar system energy delivered by Dr. Fatin Hanna Binti Naning@Zin, Senior Lecturer of the Department of Fundamental Sciences and Engineering UPMKB, demo installation of the solar system by Mr. Shamsuddin Hj. Yatim, namely Agriculture Assistant, UPMKB University Agricultural Park, sharing of knowledge of compost production and foliar fertilizer by UPMKB students, planting of fruit saplings around the school area, sale and promotion of UPMKB farm produce and upgrading of waqf waiting for SK Ulu Segan.

2. STUDENT PROGRAMME WITH BINTULU ZONE COMMUNITY

The Community Joint Student Programme is a programme organised by the Ministry of Education Malaysia (MOE) conducted around the state of Sarawak in conjunction with this month of independence. Five (5) zones have been selected as volunteer locations for students to approach the Sarawak community, namely Bintulu, Miri, Sibu, Betong and Kuching. This activity is to provide assistance to the local village community as well as to expose the community the skills found in the existing Institutions of Higher Learning in Sarawak.

For the Bintulu Zone, 30 students from UPM Bintulu Campus were involved in the success of this programme which was conducted on 15 September 2018 (Saturday), at Kampung Kuala Segan, Bintulu. UPM Bintulu Campus (UPMKB) has organised several programmes throughout the day including academic workshop slots (English, Mathematics and Science) for primary school students, academic improvement briefing slots for secondary school students and parents of students, integrity forum slots for the villagers and skills improvement workshop slots (cooking, sewing and beauty) for women.

The programme slots are filled by lecturers and staff of UPMKB as well as KEMAS. To further invigorate the values of volunteerism, the spirit of patriotism and integrity of the students, they also organised gotong royong activities to clean and refurbish the community hall and the planting of fruit trees as a contribution to the villagers. The essence of this programme can provide exposure to the students in applying the knowledge learned by training the soft skills in themselves and thus leading to the goal of the MOE as the organizer of this program which is to form students who have the spirit of patreiotism, high volunteerism, caring, love and mutual respect. In addition, this can also have a positive impact on the local community.
