SERDANG, 28 Jun -Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) has ranked 158th best in the world in QS World University Rankings 2024. UPM also showed an improvement in five rating indicators, namely Academic Reputation (Academic Reputation), Employer Reputation (Employer Reputation), Sitting per Academic Staff (Citations per Faculty), International Academic Staff (International Faculty) and International Students with international student indicators seen as UPM's main strength when ranked 72nd in the world.
During the year, the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), the rating organizer, added three new indicators making it nine (9) overall rating indicators compared to only six (6) indicators in the previous year. In addition, changes were also made to some indicator weights.
UPM takes seriously the three new indicators of QS World University Rankings, namely International Research Network, Sustainability, and Employment Impact (Employment Outcomes) which were created starting this year. The university management is working on the progress and organising efforts to evaluate and improve the existing strategy.
This change in QS World University Rankings 2024 assessment indicators provides new perspectives and benchmarks in UPM's existing practices and achievements especially in the production of high-impact research and the production of quality graduates. The increase in the number of international students pursuing study programmes in UPM shows an increase in reputation as well as international recognition of the academic staff's ability in ensuring that the programme offerings are in line with current trends.
