RECODA TO COLLABORATE WITH THREE LOCAL UNIVERSITIES

KUCHING (June 19): The Regional Corridor Development Authority (Recoda) yesterday engaged with three local universities on developing potential collaborations with industrial partners in serving regional communities in Sarawak.

The participating universities during the online information sharing session were Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) Bintulu Campus, Curtin University Malaysia and Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM).

During the online meeting, Recoda Facilitation and Coordination manager Khairina Dawek said potential collaborations would not only focus on job training to serve energy-intensive industries, but also to meet the needs of regional community stakeholders.

Khairina added that socio-economic development in the Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy (Score) can be fostered by equipping workers with relevant technical knowledge.

Meanwhile, Curtin Malaysia pro vice-chancellor, president, and chief executive Prof Simon Leunig said the university had carried out collaborations with industries, professional bodies in various ways, offering students exposure to industrial practices and to encourage industrial research.

He added that the university is open to discussions with interested parties on possible collaborations, which may include research and development, consultancy, facilities sharing, interns or graduates recruitment and community services.

UiTM deputy rector (Research And Industrial Linkages) Assoc Prof Dr Abang Zainoren Abang Abdurahman and UPM Bintulu Campus Director Assoc Prof Dr Shahrul Razid Sarbini also said their respective universities are open to collaborations, dependent on industry needs.

In addition to implementing infrastructure and socio-economic projects, Recoda assists existing investors in terms of manpower supply and jobs training.

Recoda is also tasked with investment promotion in the Score region as well as job creation.
