The pleasure of reading among young minds opens pathways to countless adventures and knowledge. It's a spark that fuels creativity, nurtures understanding, and sows the seeds of a lifelong love for learning. Within the pages of a book, young readers can journey through uncharted territories, relate to a tapestry of characters, and develop a deep appreciation for the magic of language.
Introducing the "Ready, Set, Read!" initiative – a collaborative endeavour involving CALC@UPMKB, SK Sg. Tau Selangau, and the respected YB Tuan Edwin Banta (P214 Selangau). Our shared goal is to cultivate essential reading skills among low-proficiency ESL learners at the school, a mission that took root in November 2022. The warm reception from SK Sg. Tau warmed our hearts as Mr. Edwin Mut, the esteemed headmaster, welcomed our program with enthusiasm and open arms.
Spanning three years, the program is divided into three phases, each encompassing a unique focus. Beyond reading, STEM activities and community engagement are woven into the fabric of our initiative. Our journey officially began on 18 August 2023, with the initiation of Activity 1: The Reading Tree Challenge. This endeavour goes beyond reading; it aims to spark an affection for books among beginner and low-proficiency ESL learners of SK Sg. Tau. Over the next 4-5 weeks, the pupils will immerse themselves in a world of literary exploration, nurturing a fondness for reading.
We're also delighted to share that over 250 books have been generously donated to the school, strengthening our cause. These books transcend ink and paper, providing gateways to knowledge, inspiration, and personal growth.
Let's celebrate the magic of reading together, as we venture into new realms and cultivate a future full of potential. Stay tuned for updates as we continue to nurture young minds and inspire the joy of learning through the magic of words.
