On September 7 and 8, 2023, the International Postgraduate Seminar on Agriculture and Forestry 2023 (IPSAF2023) program organized by the Faculty of Agricultural and Forestry Sciences has received the participation of 54 participants from 11 countries, including Japan, India, Indonesia and Nigeria.
Dr. Keeren Sundara Rajoo, Director of IPSAF2023 program said, the presence of participants from various countries has made IPSAF2023 a prestigious international platform for the exchange of knowledge and experience in agriculture and forestry, as well as strengthening UPMKB's status as an important research center in agriculture and forestry at the global level.
IPSAF2023 was officiated by Prof. Dr. Shahrul Razid Sarbini (Director of UPMKB Campus) and he highlighted the importance of strategic collaboration between academic institutions. He stressed that cooperation among universities at the international level is essential in the face of global challenges related to agriculture and forestry. "I hope that this platform will help to raise awareness of the importance of sustainable agriculture and forestry in addressing the challenges of climate change, food security, and environmental degradation," he said.
The seminar IPSAF2023 themed "Sustainable Solutions for a Sustainable Future" has provided a platform for graduate students to present the latest research and developments in agriculture and forestry. Among the researches that have been presented include the development of organic fertilizers for rice cultivation, Ghana's potential to meet domestic demand for palm oil sustainably and the formation of biofilms using red sea weed for use as organic packaging materials. In addition, IPSAF2023 has also invited two keynote speakers, namely Prof. Madya Dr. Mami Irie (Tokyo University of Agriculture, Japan) and Prof. Dr. Mukesh Singh (Teerthanker Mahaveer University, India).
In his closing remarks, Dr. Zamri Bin Rosli (Dean of the Faculty of Agricultural and Forestry Sciences) expressed confidence that discussions and presentations at IPSAF2023 will help advance our understanding of the challenges faced by agriculture and forestry, and to identify potential solutions.
