BINTULU: Faculty of Agricultural Science and Forestry (FSPH) Universiti Putra Malaysia Bintulu Campus (UPMKB) has organised the Flora and Fauna Campaign 2023 in conjunction with the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Week (STEM) of SK Rancangan Sepupok Niah recently.
A spokesman for UPMKB said the programme aims to apply the importance of environmental care to the school community and the local community. He said, the staff of the Forestry Science Department FSPH UPMKB are invited to make this program a success so that all parties can work together to protect the environment.
Speaking at the opening of the programme, UPMKB Forestry Science Department Head Dr Norul Izani Md Allwi said such programmes can foster students' interest in learning about the importance of protecting and preserving the environment.
"This program can also provide space and opportunity for all parties to work together in safeguarding the environment," he said. Earlier, 150 participants participated in this program including a delegation from UPMKB comprising employees of the Forestry Science Department and Diploma in Forestry students.
Various activities were carried out such as a briefing by Dr Ahmad Mustapha Mohamad Pazi on the technique of relocating saplings to new polybags and talks on the importance of caring for flora and fauna by Assoc Prof Dr John Keen Chubo.
In the program, as many as 114 saplings were successfully replanted into new polybags for the greening of the school area and two trophies of the classroom cleanliness and fun competition round were also presented to the winners for the school.
