PUTRA OUTREACH AGRIVARSITY: FROM MALAYSIA TO EGYPT 2023

On December 16, 2023, Saturday – The Bioindustry Club (BioInc), Department of Crop Science, Faculty of Agricultural and Forestry Sciences, UPMKB with the Program Director, Mr. Christie Rekan Anak Patan and Dr. Jessica Jeyanthi A/P James Antony as the Bioindustry Club Advisor has successfully organized an international webinar titled Putra Outreach Agrivarsity: From Malaysia to Egypt 2023, in collaboration with the National Authority of Remote Sensing and Space Sciences (NARSS), Cairo, Egypt. The program was joined by participation from a total of 109 attendees from four countries including Malaysia, Egypt, Russia and Iraq. This one-day online webinar was conducted through the Zoom Meeting platform.
The event was inaugurated by Dr. Zamri Bin Rosli, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry Sciences, UPMKB, represented by Dr. Zakry Fitri Bin Ab. Aziz, Head of the Department of Crop Science, UPMKB, and Prof. Dr. Islam Abou El-Magd, Chairman of NARSS. They emphasized the significance of institutional collaboration across nations, particularly in promoting knowledge exchange to foster sustainable agriculture that benefits both individuals and the environment in their speeches.
The program starts with moderator, Ts. Dr. Shiamala Devi Ramaiya welcoming all the participants and speakers of the program. The programs speakers included Dr. Hanisah Kamilah Abd Razak, a senior lecturer from the Department of Crop Science, UPMKB, who explained the bio-material technology used to enhance soil fertility and the production of related bio-based products such as bio-stimulants, bio-packaging, and more. Additionally, a Ph.D. student from UPMKB, Ms. Aisyah Pratiwi Binti Suryanto Sugian, presented on the evolution of agricultural landscapes and technologies, starting from rice cultivation to oil palm cultivation in Malaysia. Moreover, two guest speakers from NARSS, Cairo, Egypt, namely Prof. Dr. Elsayed Said Mohamed and Mr. Mohamed Emam Sayed Amin, shared insights into remote sensing technology used for agricultural area mapping, soil condition assessment and its mechanism to sustain food security.
In the closing of the program, Dr. Zakry Fitri Bin Ab. Aziz, Head of the Department of Crop Science, UPMKB, reviewed and expressed hope for the continuous collaboration between NARSS and UPMKB in the upcoming years. This collaboration not only focuses on knowledge exchange among students but also on research and teaching to ensure food security through agricultural sector development. Lastly, Mr. Christie Rekan Anak Patan on behalf of the Bioindustry Club including the Club Advisor, Dr. Jessica Jeyanthi A/P James Antony conveyed gratitude and thankfulness for the enthusiastic participation of the students, young researchers, and lecturers. Not to forget, Bioindustry Clubs Program Committee and members also extends an appreciation to the participants and speakers for their contribution to make the program a success.
