UPMKB SUCCESSFULLY ORGANISED THE FIRST PSAF 2021

AS one of the leading universities in the country, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) strives to contribute towards nation-building, wealth creation and global human progress through exploration and dissemination of knowledge, especially in the fields of agriculture and forestry. Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry Science, Universiti Putra Malaysia Bintulu Sarawak Campus (UPMKB) has successfully organized the first Postgraduate Seminar on Agriculture and Forestry 2021 (PSAF 2021) on 6 October. This seminar is specifically for postgraduate students in the field of agricultural and forestry sciences in Malaysia.

The main objective of PSAF 2021 is to provide a platform for postgraduate students from across the country to share the latest developments in their respective fields of research and create collaborative networks for the future. A total of 210 participants attended the seminar through the Cisco Webex online application. The seminar is divided into three sessions namely Crop Science, Animal Science and Fisheries, and Forestry and Agroforestry. Oral and poster presentations were delivered by 54 postgraduate students from 10 different universities in Malaysia.

The event began with a welcome speech from the dean of the Faculty of Agricultural and Forestry Sciences Dr Zamri Rosli. He emphasized that UPMKB placed the importance of education and research as a priority in its efforts to produce excellent graduates. The event continued with a keynote address entitled ‘Challenges and Opportunities for Graduate Studies in Agriculture and Forestry’ delivered by Campus Director Associate Professor Dr Shahrul Razid Sarbini. He hoped that this seminar would enhance the research culture among postgraduate students in agriculture and forestry.

The seminar ended with the presentation of prizes to the winners of the best oral and poster presentation competition. Each winner will receive a cash prize of RM50 and an e-certificate. Universiti Sabah Malaysia (UMS) is the overall champion which won all three best oral presentation awards and one best poster presentation award. Following the success of PSAF 2021, UPMKB has begun preparations for the organization of the PSAF 2022 seminar next year.
