PROGRAM PUTRA BAKTI: HEALTH IS THE NEW WEALTH

PUTRA BAKTI PROGRAM: HEALTH IS THE NEW WEALTH REVEALS VARIOUS HEALTH ISSUES

BINTULU: The leading cause of death in Malaysia is due to non-communicable disease which recorded 113500 deaths in 2016.  The disease always results from an unhealthy lifestyle. Looking at this scenario, a total of 40 students of the QKK2101 Bakti Student Course (Group 101), First Semester of Academic Session 2021/2022, Universiti Putra Malaysia Bintulu Sarawak Campus (UPMKB) took the initiative to organize the PUTRA BAKTI: Health Is The New Wealth Programme  on 8 and 9 January 2022 in collaboration with the programme advisor, Dr. Juriah Kamaludeen. The main purpose of this programme is to call on the community to have a broader and deeper knowledge of healthy health and lifestyle. In order to comply with the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in force in the effort to break the Covid-19 chain, this program has been implemented through an alternative method i.e. online (Cisco Webex).

The programme started with the first slot 'Hypertension: Health promotion, say no to chronic diseases' on 8 January presented by the Medical Officer, Health Campus of Universiti Sains Malaysia, Kelantan, Dr. Sumithra Clvakumaran. "Medicine is the last step, prevention is better than cure," he said in the slot. The next slot is 'Cancer Myths and Facts' presented by the Medical Officer, Klinik Satelite Universiti Putra Malaysia, Bintulu Campus, Sarawak, Dr. Muhammad Amru Bin Badrul Hisam, where besides discussing the facts and myths regarding cancer, he also touched on the topics of cancer as a whole such as the development of cancer, the implications of cancer, the type of cancer, the treatment methods, and cancer factors.

The program continues with the third slot 'Care for your eyes, value your sight' and the slot "One, two, three, SMILE! Dr. Kenneth Teow Kheng Leong, Directorate of Surgery, UD54 Ophthalmologist, Bintulu Hospital, Sarawak and Dr. Nadiyah Abdullah Zawawi, a Prosthodontic Resident from Faculty of Dentistry, Universiti Teknologi MARA Campus, Selangor.

On the second day of the programme, the Nutrition Science Officer from the Bintulu Sarawak Divisional Health Office, Puan Umi Zarifah bt Mohd Khairi was invited to present a fifth slot focusing on obesity and the problem of overweight, proper nutrition, balanced diet, and the importance of maintaining an ideal weight. The sixth slot was presented by Dr. Raihana Sharir from the Faculty of Sports Science and Recreation, Universiti Teknologi MARA, Shah Alam, Selangor. In this last slot, the speaker had the opportunity to do a brief workout with the participants .

At the end of the two-day program, the kuiz match held through the Quizziz platform  received a very encouraging reception from the participants. It is hoped that all participants will benefit from the slots that have been run to practice the knowledge gained in daily life.
