90 students from UPM Serdang (Reverend Za'ba College) and UPM Bintulu Sarawak Campus (Sri Rajang College) participated in the Look-East Mobility Program beginning September 1 - 15, 2019 at the Kyushu Institute of Technology, Japan. Spearheading the UPM's Look-East Policy (Japan) is Prof. Madya Dr. Arifin Abdu, Head of KPZ, UPM since 2009.
This program provides early exposure to timeliness, dedication, discipline, cleanliness and respect for parents to teach students to absorb Japanese culture into everyday life. Japan is known for its work ethic and craftsmanship, which is ideal for supporting the government's efforts in the Look-East Policy which was launched by Y.A.B Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad since Feb 8, 1982. He has emphasised the observation of the entire Japanese education system from kindergarten through university level. In this regard, UPM has taken the approach of implementing such student mobility programmes to give students the opportunity to experience the system first-hand by sending its students to several well-known universities in Japan every year.
Throughout the programme students will have the opportunity to participate in activities such as Sustainable Development Goals, Japanese Language Classes, Robotics for Humanity workshops and Robot Programming and AI Technology. In addition, students will also have the opportunity to visit famous factories such as Sinmoji Waste Management Center, Kitakyushu Eco Town Center, Shabondama Soap, Co. Ltd, and Yasikawa Electric Corporation Nakama.
