BINTULU: A total of 51 participants from all over Sarawak participated in the Egg and Poultry Farming Management Course and Business Plan Preparation Course at Universiti Putra Malaysia Bintulu Campus (UPMKB) recently.
The course was organized by University Agriculture Park (TPU) UPMKB with the aim to inculcate entrepreneurial traits to farmers in order to become successful entrepreneurs.
UPMKB’s University Agricultural and Development Park (TPUP) Director Dr. Ong Kian Huat said the course was one of a series of courses planned this year in realising the University4Society agricultural expansion program for the general public.
TPU chief Mr. Nalong Buda explained that the course aims to meet the government's recommendations to improve the agricultural industry in Malaysia, especially in Sarawak.
He said, it is also to apply the characteristics of entrepreneurship to farmers in order to be successful entrepreneurs thus giving theoretical and practical understanding to the public about livestock management.
Course organiser and chairwoman Ms. Carlina Freddie Simol said the course applied the theoretical aspects of eggs and poultry production, infrastructure needs, nutrition and livestock management.
Clearly, the fundamentals of this discipline include quantity scaling and production, disease prevention, control and prevention, performance monitoring, pollution control and the use of ‘Effective Microorganisms’ (EM) as well as techniques for preparing quality business plans.
TPUP Assistant Registrar Mr. Dexter Elvin Menari, commenting on the training course, explained on the delivery aspect of the course which combined lectures and practical sessions conducted by obtaining the services of UPMKB’s instructors and experts.
