F) Psychological Well-Being (Positive Psychology)
Introduction:
Malaysia, as a developing country has placed more emphasis on the mental health of the population. Thus, having a sense of psychological well-being is crucial not only for professional competency but for personal wellness as well. Psychological well-being encompasses six dimensions, namely autonomy, environmental mastery, personal growth, positive relations with others, purpose in life, self-acceptance. Each of the dimension has emerged as a healthy and positive attitude in enhancing individuals’ psychological well-being. This research will study the concepts of psychological well-being and self-compassion, especially their relevance to secondary teachers. The psychological well-being, self-compassion, and altruism processes are conceptualized using a framework that will be developed during the research project. This framework preserves that self-compassion and altruism is a process of translating the very personal domain of psychological distress to the interpersonal components of psychological well-being. This study will highlight the significance of future research on psychological well-being in Malaysia, particularly in Sarawak.
