UPMKB STUDENTS ORGANISE 'RIGHT ON TARGET: ARCHERY SHOOTING DAY'

FOR the first time since the country is in the transition phase to endemic, students of the QKS2108 Credit Co-curriculum course Memanah Universiti Putra Malaysia Bintulu Campus (UPMKB) have organised an archery competition themed 'Right On Target: Archery Shooting Day' at the UPMKB archery target, recently.

The sport's core credit co-curricular competition is open to UPMKB students and staff only and takes place in the male and female categories.

A total of 20 participants took part in 11 female and male participants which took place on 25 and 26 June.

The archery competition took place in two rounds, namely the knockout qualifier and the knockout decider.

The men's category was won by the staff of Kolej Sri Rajang UPMKB Mazuan Mustapa, while UPMKB Year 1 student Muhammad Wafiuddin Taha won second place and third place was taken by another UPMKB student Muhammad Luqman Hakim Haris.

For the women's category, Bachelor Year 1 student Jenny James was crowned the champion, while the second place was held by UPMKB staff Nur Huda Fazana Lawang and the third place was occupied by another Bachelor 1 student Year 1 Damie Ukar.

The main purpose of this competition is to revive sportsmanship, discover talents and provide exposure to UPMKB staff to modern archery sports of this type of recurve.

In addition, this modern type of archery competition is the first to be held after UPMKB improved the archery target field facilities as well as the supply and provision of modern archery equipment of the recurve type in 2021.

With the availability of these archery facilities and equipment, the talents and abilities of UPMKB staff in this archery sport can be honed and can also be used as a platform to represent the university to outdoor competitions.

Overall, the participants of the competition suggested that such programmes be held more often on a larger and open scale, which is to involve the outside community around Bintulu in order to further develop the archery sport as a whole.
