UPMKB ORGANISES STRESS MANAGEMENT PROGRAM: LAUGHTER THERAPY ON MARCH 15-16, 2023

Determined to create awareness on the importance of stress management in mental health care, Universiti Putra Malaysia Bintulu Campus (UPMKB) will be organizing a Stress Management: Laughter Therapy Program on 15 and 16 March 2023 Series 1 and 2.

A spokesman for the organizer who is also the speaker of the program, UPMKB Psychology Officer Muhammad Abdul Rahim Habib said laughter therapy is a therapy that can improve physical and mental health, reduce stress, and promote social interaction.

"It is a fun and simple approach to improve the quality of life for all ages from children to the elderly," he said in a statement here yesterday.

He said the components that will be applied to the participants during the course are the no-cause laughter technique, internal breathing exercises and relaxation techniques.

He said the technique can have a beneficial impact on mood swings and help the production of positive hormones.

"Studies released by academics from leading universities in the United States show laughter therapy can help remove serotonin and endorphins that act as neurotransmitters that can increase emotions of happiness and reduce depressive symptoms," he explains.

In addition, he said, an individual who laughs consistently can make it more positive as well as reduce one's anger and internal latency.

When a person gets positive, he said, laughter can also improve cognitive function in terms of memory as well as increase creativity and problem-solving ability.

Hence, civil servants and private employees are invited to participate in the event on the stated date from 8.30 am to 12.30 pm at the UPMKB Conference Hall and the closing date for participation is March 10.

This program is organized by the Counseling and Student Welfare Section of UPMKB and those who are interested in participating can contact the Secretariat of Rabaiyah Zaini or Rizal Musa at 086-855474 for more information.
