Bintulu: February 24th, 2023, Biodiversity Borneo Laboratory, Institute of Ecosystem Science Borneo (IEB), Universiti Putra Malaysia Bintulu Sarawak Campus (UPMKB) has conducted a second hands-on workshop on “We Can Plant - hydroponic farming” at Centre of Rehabilitation in the Community (Pertubuhan Pemulihan Dalam Komuniti) (PPDK Bintulu). This hands-on workshop was the second workshop organised by the program “Team Up with Invisible Minority Yet Powerful Organisms (T-I-N-Y) under the “Knowledge Transfer Grant Scheme (KTGS)” funded by University Community Transformation Centre-UCTC UPM.
A total of 23 participants joined the workshop. The workshop aimed at providing a supportive environment and cultivating interest for people with disabilities to plant their own hydroponic vegetables. The project was led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Leong Sui Sien (IEB Research Associate and Associate Professor of the Department of Animal Sciences and Fishery, Faculty of Agricultural and Forestry Sciences, UPMKB). In this second workshop, hands-on training on basic introduction to the hydroponic set, practical planting of vegetables, and making of organic fertilisers have been provided and demonstrated by the expert, Mr. Bohari bin Mohd Zini (Hydroponic Entrepreneur, Bintulu).
To achieve the objectives of the program, T-I-N-Y, the team has shown true dedication and determination.
