BINTULU, November 1 – His Royal Highness Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj Ibni Almarhum Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Alhaj, the Sultan of Selangor has consented to officiate the 46th Convocation Ceremony of Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) for the first session held at the Sri Kenyalang Hall, Universiti Putra Malaysia Bintulu Campus (UPMKB) Sarawak here, this morning.

 

His Royal Highness who is also the Chancellor of UPM said, as an agricultural-based university, UPMKB Sarawak can be a pioneer to produce graduands of agricultural entrepreneurs to ensure that the supply of agro-food industry continues to be stable and growing.

 

"UPMKB is able to produce graduands of agricultural entrepreneurs through the curriculum as well as the support of the current learning and teaching system.

 

"Therefore, UPMKB can be enhanced in terms of infrastructure facilities so that students' interest in agriculture can be nurtured and preserved," he said.

 

At the ceremony, Sultan Sharafuddin congratulated UPM staff on their success in being ranked 123rd in the QS World University Ranking 2023 rating and UPM is now on track to be ranked in the top 100 universities in the world by 2025.

 

In the same ceremony, Chancellor of UPM, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah awarded Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D), Master's, Bachelor's Degree and Diploma to 405 graduands of various programs.

 

In addition, Chancellor also presented prizes to all University Prize Winners, namely the Live Animals Medical Centre Prize for Best Graduand Degree, sponsored by Live Animals Medical Centre to Aisyah Pratiwi Suryanto Sugian from the Bachelor of Bioindustry Science, UPMKB and Yvonne Sing Sai Hoi Excellence Prize (Best Graduand Diploma), sponsored by Puan Sing Sai Hoi to Jaime Lazaroo from the Diploma in Agricultural Engineering, UPMKB.

 

Also present were the Speaker of the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly, Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nasar, Minister of Food Industry, Commodities and Regional Development of Sarawak, Dato Sri Dr. Stephen Rundi Utom, Minister in the Sarawak Premier Department, Datuk John Sikie Tayai, Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development, Datuk Roland Sagah Wee Inn and Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development Sarawak, Dato Majang Renggi.
