SARAWAK PREMIER RECEIVES COURTESY VISIT FROM UPM BINTULU CAMPUS

KUCHING: Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg received a courtesy visit from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) Bintulu Campus at Wisma Bapa Malaysia on Monday.

The delegation was led by the Chairman of the Board of Directors of UPM, Tengku Syarif Laksamana Perlis Dato' Seri DiRaja Syed Razlan Syed Putra.

Speaking to the media after the courtesy visit, he said, the main purpose of the courtesy visit was to invite the Sarawak Premier to attend the UPM convocation which will be held for the first time at Bintulu campus on 1 November.

"This is the intention of the Chancellor of Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah to hold a convocation at the Bintulu campus.

"It can provide an opportunity for the families of students from Sarawak to witness the convocation on stage as many people were unable to get to the peninsula.

"Therefore, starting from this year, UPM will hold a convocation ceremony every year in Sarawak.

"My intention is also to pay tribute to the state of Sarawak which has opened up the opportunity for UPM to open a campus in Bintulu," he said.

For the record, a total of 471 graduates from Sarawak and Peninsular are expected to be involved in the convocation. - UKAS EDITION
