BINTULU: The Putra Agricultural Center of Universiti Putra Malaysia Bintulu Campus (UPMKB) will organize the 'Juh Berekot Convo' programme in conjunction with the UPMKB Convocation Festival 2023 on October 29 starting at 6 am.

A UPMKB spokesperson said that the programme is expected to be implemented as an annual event as well as one of the activities in the convocation festival.
He said, long-distance running events or competitions are getting more and more popular among the general public in recent times.  

JTherefore, he said, activities such as fundraising runs up to marathon events were held with the participation of many participants regardless of background.  
"The combined activity of running on the track and trail running also received a favorable response," added the spokesperson today.

Meanwhile, Program Advisor and Deputy Director of the UPMKB Putra Agricultural Center Associate Professor Dr Amy Halimah said that the inaugural run was open to citizens and non-citizens aged 15 and over.

She said, it is limited to 500 people and the 5.5 kilometer (km) run will compete in two categories, namely men and women who will be crowned champion, runner-up and third place.

"Each participant will also receive a medal along with a finisher's shirt except for those who register after September 23, 2023," she explained.

Program director Khalid Nawi said, the idea of ​​organizing the run came about after realizing the encouraging response seen in the organization of several previous runs.

"We support activities that promote mental and physical health balance for UPMKB residents in particular as well as the local community in general thus helping to promote UPMKB through running sports events," he explained.

He said that any individual or agency interested in contributing or sponsoring is very welcome and can contact the secretariat of the programme, Dr Carlina Freddie at 019-8340886 or Josephine Jawai Makos (013-7073252).. 

Contributions in cash are eligible for tax exemption as stipulated in Section 44(6) of the Income Tax Act 1967.  

"For sponsorship worth RM2,000 and above, the logo of the sponsoring company will be printed on the program shirt as a sign of appreciation and for sponsorship worth RM5,000 and above, the company logo will be printed on the 'Juh Berekot Konvo' program shirt and banner," he said. .
