Putra Agricultural Center (PPP), Universiti Putra Malaysia Bintulu Sarawak Campus (UPMKB) has recently organized the Musang King Durian Breeding Course (D197) on 09 September 2023 (Saturday) from 8.00 am to 5.00 pm last.

 

A total of 23 participants attended the course, most of whom came from Miri, Kuching, Kanowit, Sibu and Bintulu.

 

Mr. Sat Maling, Senior Agricultural Officer of UPMKB Putra Agricultural Center, when commenting explained that the course was organized to give exposure to the course participants regarding the correct planting and maintenance methods regarding the Musang King durian plant (D197).

 

He hopes that by organizing this course, to some extent, it will help gardeners solve various problems related to planting and management, especially durian musang king.

 

Among the content of this Musang King (D197) Durian Breeding Course is the scenario and potential of D197, morphology, types of clones/varieties, breeding methods and D197 planting media. In the course, participants were exposed to planting management methods, care and maintenance after planting as well as production costs related to durian as well as breeding and planting practical training.

 

Deputy Director of PPP, UPMKB, Prof. Associate Dr. Amy Halimah Binti Rajaee, as the course advisor also commented that the program will benefit all participants who have attended the course. This is because, according to him, the potential of the durian crop industry and the demand for the variety are capable of generating a good income and gaining a place in the local and international markets.

 

According to him, this course is one of a series of courses planned in 2023 in realizing the University4Society program through the Agricultural Technology Transfer and Agricultural Development Course for the general public. He also hopes that all course participants can gain useful knowledge and experience before starting durian cultivation after attending this course.
