Universiti Putra Malaysia Bintulu Sarawak Campus (UPMKB) has received an allocation of RM1 million from the Sarawak Timber Industry Development Corporation (PUSAKA) to assist in the field of research and development from the related forest management aspects in the state.

UPMKB in its statement said, the allocation in the form of an endowment known as PUSAKAUPM Chair which is a form of cooperation between PUSAKA and UPMKB will focus on research and development of tropical forest and planting forest management, food security and renewable energy.

Thus, he said, the Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) Exchange Ceremony was held on 23 June at Pullman Miri Waterfront.

"The MoA exchange was officiated by UPM Vice-Chancellor Professor Dato Dr Mohd Roslan Sulaiman and General Manager of PUSAKA Datu Hashim Bojet," he said yesterday.

He said the ceremony was also witnessed by the Deputy Premier of Sarawak Minister of Urban Development and Natural Resources who is also the Minister of International Trade, Industry and Investment Sarawak and Chairman of the PUSAKA Management Board Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan.

He said the historic ceremony was in conjunction with the 50th Anniversary Dinner of PUSAKA at the Northern Territory Office Level.

Also present were Sarawak Transport Minister Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin, Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier Department (Laborer, Imigresen and Project Monitoring) Datuk Gerawat Gala, Deputy Minister of Women and Child Development Datuk Rosey Yunus, Deputy Minister of Health of Malaysia Lukanisman Awang Sauni, Deputy Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Dr Ripin Lamat, Datuk Mohd Naroden Majais and other guests of honour.

Also present were UPMKB Campus Director Professor Dr Shahrul Razid Sarbini, Dean of the Faculty of Agricultural Science and Forestry UPMKB Dr Zamri Rosli, Head of Administration of UPMKB Noor Hakim Ahmad, Associate Professor of Forestry Science Department, Faculty of Agricultural Science and Forestry UPMKB Associate Professor Dr Ong Kian Huat and Senior Assistant Registrar of UPMKB Mohamad Syukri Mohamad Adnan.
