BINTULU: Long-distance running events have gained increasing popularity among the public in recent times. Activities such as running for fund quotations to marathon events are well received regardless of the background of the individual who accompanies it. The combination of track running and trail running also received a commending reception. In line with that, in conjunction with the 2023 UPMKB Convocation Ceremony, the UPMKB Putra Agriculture Centre has organized the 2023 Juh Berekot Konvo Program on October 29, 2023 (Sunday) at Sri Kenyalang Hall from 5.00 am to 9.30 am.

 

Program advisor and deputy director of UPMKB Putra Agriculture Centre, Prof. Madya Dr. Amy Halimah said that the running program that was held this time was open to all those aged 15 years and over had received a positive and encouraging response. A total of 300 people consisting of UPMKB students and staff as well as outside participants not only from Bintulu but also from Sibu, Miri and Kuching have participated in this 5.5 km distance running program which competed in two categories, namely the male and female categories.

 

According to Mr. Khalid Nawi (Program Director), the idea of organising the run was sparked after realizing the encouraging response to any previous run and supporting activities that promote mental and physical health balance for UPMKB citizens especially and the local community in general and at the same time help promote UPMKB through running events, he explained.

 

The event was officiated by the Director of UPMKB Campus, Prof. Dr. Shahrul Razid Sarbini and he called on the community especially in Bintulu and Sarawak in general to support this effort and to respond to the spirit of fitness and health run for unity, well-being, and harmony together.

 

The winner for the men's category, third place was won by Mr. Wan Irfan Hakim Bin Wan Ismail (29.38 mins), Runner-up Mr. Suliman Bin Yuran (23.00 minutes) and Champion of Juh Berekot Konvo this time were held Mr En. Harresh A/L Ramesh Kumar with a time of 20.53 minutes.

 

While the winner for the female category was also the third place Cik Darshini Abigail A/P Ganasan (47.51 minutes), Runner-up Mrs. Zalifah Binti Jahuni participant from Miri with a record of 42.27 minutes, and then Champion, Miss Sophia Anak Peter with a record time of 34.53 minutes.

 

UPMKB also records thousands of thanks to all sponsors who have contributed and supported in implementing this program, especially to Bintulu Port Holdings Berhad which is the main sponsor of the Juh Berekot Konvo program this time and other sponsors namely TBS Agromill S/B, MJ Business, Trihope Multi Electrobiz, Evergrow Rj General Contractor, Native Synergy S/B, Mrs. Norlizan Awang and all those involved directly and indirectly.

Furthermore, UPMKB would like to invite community members to join UPM Bintulu Sarawak Campus to jointly enliven the 2023 Convoy Party starting Nov 2, 2023 (Thursday) to Nov 5, 2023 (Sunday), 8.00 am – 11.00 pm at the Sri Kenyalang Hall Expo Site, UPMKB. What's interesting? Various activities and sales booths in conjunction with the Convo Party will be held and offer a variety of sales of food and beverage products, souvenirs and convoy flowers, PPP agricultural products at affordable prices, competitions (E-sport, Rugby 7 Sides, Karaoke), Archery, Flying Fox, Kayaking, Convo Culture Night, Mukun and Invited Artist Performances.

 

The public also had the opportunity to participate in the Putra Bakti @ Animal Exhibition (AnimEX 5.0) activity aimed at creating awareness to the community on the importance of special skills of caring for pets, reptiles, and aquatic animals as well as to showcase the livestock species found in UPMKB.
