ISTHMUS MINI GEDONG PROJECT WILL CHANGE THE LANDSCAPE OF GEDONG: ABANG JOHARI

Abang Johari signed the plaque as a symbol of the Compensation Cheque Handover Ceremony for the Masterplan Mini Isthmus Project, Gedong while others witnessed.

KUCHING: The Isthmus Mini Gedong development project will change the development landscape in Gedong, said Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

According to him, the development project which is a replica of Isthmus Kuching will be equipped with various basic facilities.

"It is actually similar to the Isthmus in Kuching which was developed by Tun Taib (the Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Pehin Sri Taib Mahmud) at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching and now we have a mini Isthmus in Gedong.

"The area will be covered with basic facilities such as roads, water and electricity supply as well as administrative offices including district officers' offices, high training institutions, state and federal government employee quarters built through a new approach such as apartments," he said.

He said this at a press conference after completing the Compensation Cheque Handover Ceremony for the Masterplan Mini Isthmus Project, Gedong at the Gedong Community Hall in Gedong, today.

According to Abang Johari in line with the implementation, also developed in the area is a commercial and leisure centre, besides hotel accommodation for the convenience of visitors to Gedong.

He said the accommodation facility was created because of the expectation of many in the community especially government officials, lecturers including students who would stay there.

"Here will be students, namely Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) from Bintulu Campus and Swinburne University of Technology who conduct scientific studies on rice production in Simunjan and Gedong.

""We will also develop a road facility where we will build a road connecting Serian and Gedong along 19 kilometres which is a new road, in addition to the existing (road).

"At the same time, build a road from Gedong to Samarahan for 74 kilometers. This is what we're going to develop and it's taking time," he explained./p>

Meanwhile, Abang Johari who is also the State Assemblyman (ADUN) of Gedong, Ulu Simunjan will also be built another road, Gedong-Samalatong which starts later this year.

According to him, the road will take 36 months to complete, and all the proposed construction of the facilities will change the landscape of Gedong and Simunjan.

He further commented that now many in the world are beginning to recognize Sarawak as the 'Malaysia's economic powerhouse.'

"The Employees Provident Fund (EPF) recently visited us, expressing a desire to invest in Sarawak.

"Never before have they wanted to invest in Sarawak, but this time a team came to look for investment opportunities," he said.
