GOAT FARMING COURSE PROGRAMME ORGANIZED BY PUTRA UPMKB AGRICULTURAL CENTRE

Putra Agricultural Centre (PPP), Universiti Putra Malaysia Bintulu Sarawak Campus (UPMKB) has organised a Goat Farming Course on 25 June 2022 (Saturday). The course was conducted at the 2B UPMKB Central Lecture Hall (Theory) and Goat Livestock Unit, Shared Farm, Putra Agricultural Centre, UPMKB (Practical) from 8.00 am to 5.00 pm. A total of 51 participants from various districts in Sarawak (Bintulu, Miri, Sibu, Serian, Kuching, Betong, Bintangor, Sarikei, Matu, Mukah, Bakelalan) even from Peninsular Malaysia (Selangor, Johor, Perak, and Kedah) participated in this course.

Dr. Zaidi Suif, Senior Agriculture Officer of the Putra Agricultural Centre UPMKB when contacted explained that the course was to provide exposure to the participants on the theory related to animal husbandry, breeding, nutrition and health management of goat farming.

The practical exposure is about the goat housing system, goat breeding i.e. culling and selected females, libido test as well as goat restraint, nail cutting and flatulence treatment. This practical practice was conducted by himself and Dr. Carlina Freddie Simol @ Rachellynna who experienced in the field with the help of Mr. Yngwie Cheng and Mr. Nazri Ali. The course was also presented by Mr. Kiai Lang (Assistant Veterinary Officer bintulu Division) as a special invitation panel for the Introduction and Role of Veterinary Services Division slot to breeders.

Deputy Director of PPP UPMKB, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Amy Halimah binti Rajaee also added that the programme has received encouraging response and hopes that the knowledge transfer session will produce more livestock entrepreneurs in the country.

According to him, this course is one of a series of courses planned in 2022 in realizing the University4Society program through the Agricultural Technology Transfer Course and the development of agriculture with the general public.

Putra UPMKB Agricultural Centre hopes that this kind of cooperation can be continued with the Department of Veterinary Services and other agencies and would like to thank Puan Noor Irawati Ahamd, Ms. Renee Sherna, Ms. Josephine Jawai Makos (urusetia), En.
