FOREST THERAPY PROGRAM IMPROVES STUDENTS' MENTAL HEALTH

Bintulu - 28 Jan 2023, Peer Counselor also known as Pembimbing Rakan Siswa (PRS) Academic Session 2022/2023 in collaboration with the Student Counseling and Welfare Section (SKKP) and Forestry Science Department (JSH), Faculty of Agricultural Sciences and Forestry, Universiti Putra Malaysia Bintulu Sarawak Campus has organized a Nature Therapy Program called Forest Therapy.

According to Ajmal as the Director of the Forest Therapy Program, the program, which was conducted in the Nirwana Forest, UPMKB was held to introduce students to the methods of stress management using the nature approach. In addition, the program was held to raise awareness on the importance of preserving the environment as well as to enhance the relationship between students as well as to carry out the role of peer guide to improve the mental health well-being of the students in UPMKB.

The program, which began early this morning, began with an introductory briefing on em>Forest Therapy Therapy which was delivered by Dr. Keeren Sundara Rajoo, Senior Lecturer, Forestry Science Department (JSH), UPMKB. The next activity was the implementation of Walking in the Jungle assisted by PRS facilitators. The program continued with training activities in the group, a partnership session led by Madam Hairunisah Binti Abdul Rahman, Senior Psychology Officer, Student Affairs Division and assisted by several facilitators led by Muhammad Ajmal bin Mahmud (Director of the program) and Nurzayanah Adilah Binti Mohd Zain (Deputy Director of the program) who were joined by 25 participants.

Dr. Keeren added that, interestingly, the program was first implemented at UPMKB. Furthermore, this program can have an excellent effect on a person's mental and physical health. Therefore, Peer Counselors took the initiative and opportunity to introduce this therapy to students and the UPMKB community in the future.
