EXPERIENCE CUSTOMS AND DAILY LIFE IN THE LONGHOUSE

MIRI: The Baksis Day 'Aram Berserakup' program was organized by students of the 3-day Group 2 Student Service course from 10 March 2023 to 12 March 2023 (Friday to Sunday) at Sungai Ukong Lambir Longhouse. This program was given the name “Aram Berserakup" which is taken from the Iban word which means "Let's Work Together". This program has placed students in longhouses to study the ethnic Iban culture there. The students had also planned a number of activities during the program. This program has provided a new experience for the students of Universiti Putra Malaysia Bintulu Campus which comes from various states in Malaysia.

Subsequently, in the field of archaeology and anthropology, the longhouse is defined as a type of residential building consisting of one long room made of wood and is an early permanent form of construction in many Iban cultures. In addition, culture means social behavior and norms found in a society in a place. Based on an article published by Utusan Borneo on June 4, 2015 in Sibu, according to the Minister of Social Development, Tan Sri William Mawan, "almost 80 percent of the lifestyle of the Iban community changed and the situation was inevitable due to the changing times. Thus, the art and cultural features of the Iban longhouse are the advantages and uniqueness of Sarawak which should be preserved to this day."

The Credit Co-Curriculum Course is a structured course or practical training that must be taken by all diploma students at the university level to pass the graduation level. The course contains one credit hour. Apart from applying the elements of Soft Skills among students, the QKK2101 Credit Co-curriculum Course is a comprehensive platform for graduate students to learn and gain knowledge on the concept and method of implementation of an activity or program with the concept of conducting a council program.

In addition, this course can also help empower the youths who are university students in improving practical skills, soft skills and event management as well as giving them the opportunity to interact with each other more effectively as well as apply learning outcomes that are not obtained through other academic courses in the classroom. In line with this, a program will be organized, namely The Baksis Day 'Aram Berserakup' program which enables all aspects of the targeted to be applied in the students.

A total of 183 students including advisors and longhouse residents attended and participated in The Baksis Day 'Aram Berserakup' face-to-face Program at Sungai Ukong Lambir Longhouse, Miri organized by QKK2101 Bakti Students Course Students (Group 2), Second Semester Academic Session 2022/2023, Universiti Putra Malaysia Bintulu Sarawak Campus (UPMKB) from 10 March to 12 March 2023.

There are various activities and various slots that are carried out together with the residents of the longhouse throughout the students of Universiti Putra Malaysia Bintulu Campus is at the Sungai Ukong Lambir Longhouse. For the first slot is "Am Berkelala". "Am Berkelala" is an Iban language that means "Acquaintance With Ourselves". The slot was conducted by the students together with the residents of the longhouse. Among the activities carried out for this slot are "Ice Breaking, Tagline & Cheers, and Radio Damaged"..

For the second slot is "Fit Yourself" where the students perform aerobics. After that, the activity resumed with the third slot, "Fire Up! ". There are a lot of activities done on this slot. Among them are tele match, Chapteh game, Step & Pop, and even Coconut Bowl. The fourth slot is a Sharing Knowledge slot. This slot was presented by one of UPMKB students on "how to make compost fertilizer?" to other UPMKB students and there were also residents of the longhouse who participated in the slot.

SNext, for the fifth slot is also "Aramaic Fire” which means "Let's Cook". Here, students learn how to eat ethnic Iban cuisine together with women's bureaus. Among the cooked menus are Ayam Pansuh, Umai, and also Kuih Anthill. The next slot is Let's Cleaning. For this slot, we have worked together to clean the longhouse area. On the night side, the Gala Night slot was held. Among the activities carried out in this slot are exploring ranyai, cultural night aspirations, and there are also cultural performances.

On March 12, 2023, which was the last day for The Baksis Day 'Aram Berserakup’ program was organized. In the morning, the next slot relates to the 8th slot which is Fit Yourself 2.0. The activities performed for this slot are aerobic and poco-poco. This activity was led by the chieftain and one of the representatives from the long house. Next, the 9th slot continues by making handicrafts, that is, weaving. The name of this slot is Let's Craft. As for the last slot is "Berserarak Kitai Dituk"

which means "Separate Us Here". The slot began with the welcoming of the guest of honor, the singing of "Negaraku", the recitation of prayers, and then continued with speeches from the QKK2101 Program Director and YB Ripin bin Lamat.

Representing the guest of honour, YB Dr. Ripin Lamat who is the Deputy Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development said that "I hope that the people educated in IPTA and IPTS will be the leaders in terms of the economy, public sector, and private sector in the future".

"So take as much experience as possible when you are all in Sarawak" said YB Dr Ripin bin Lamat, N.72 Lambir Assemblyman who is also an alumnus of Universiti Putra Malaysia Bintulu Campus to students from various states.

He continued his speech by saying "So, I hope that the experience of the students in the longhouse, take it as a guide for us to foster a spirit of tolerance, a spirit of respect and also lead to racial and religious unity".

"In Sarawak that is the uniqueness of all of us, we understand each other and between races. To the mothers in the longhouse, thank you for accepting these students as adopted children and to the women's bureaus thank you also for cooking for today."

Representing the students of Bakti Pelajar (Group 2) Universiti Putra Malaysia Bintulu Campus, as the program director, Muhammad Alif Haiqal Bin Abd Rashid expressed his gratitude that the program had progressed smoothly and said "this program has brought a million memories and experiences that have contributed enough sets of life that are embroidered with the height of knowledge and noble morals. All the useful favors and inputs from the course of The Baksis Day:Aram Berserakup program are expected to be planted, fertilized and harvested best by students and students".

"Indeed, we as UPMKB students want to express our highest appreciation to the residents of Rumah Panjang Sungai Ukong, Penghulu Randi anak Elon and Tuai Rumah Jarek anak Klambu for accepting us with an open heart and giving us the opportunity to stay here".

 "With His permission, hopefully our meeting in this village will not be rainy, not sloppy and lasting and lasting forever".

"I as the program director would also like to take this opportunity to thank our advisor, Dr. Nurul Nadwa binti Zulkfili for being willing to take his time to teach us how to organize this program.
