COLLABORATION BETWEEN INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITIES FACES GLOBAL CHALLENGES

BINTULU: Collaboration among universities at the international level is crucial in facing global challenges related to agriculture and forestry.

Director of the 2023 International Postgraduate Seminar on Agriculture and Forestry (IPSAF) Dr Keeren Sundara Rajoo said, through this platform will help raise awareness about the importance of sustainable agriculture and forestry in addressing the challenges of climate change, food security and environmental degradation.

"The presence of participants from various countries has made IPSAF 2023 prestigious for the exchange of knowledge and experience in agriculture and forestry," he said at the seminar program recently. 

The seminar was recommended by the Faculty of Agricultural Science and Forestry Universiti Putra Malaysia Bintulu Campus (UPMKB) which was accompanied by 54 participants from 11 countries between Japan, India, Indonesia and Nigeria. 

The seminar was officiated by UPMKB Campus Director Professor Dr Shahrul Razid Sarbini who also described the importance of strategic cooperation between international academic institutions. 

Meanwhile, speaking at the closing ceremony, Dean of the Faculty of Agricultural Science and Forestry Dr Zamri Rosli said he was confident that the discussions and presentations at IPSAF 2023 would help increase understanding of the challenges faced by agriculture and forestry and to identify potential solutions. 

IPSAF 2023 themed 'Sustainable Solutions For a Sustainable Future' provides a platform for postgraduate students to present the latest research and developments in agriculture and forestry.

These include the development of organic steel for rice cultivation, Ghana's potential to meet domestic demand for palm oil sustainably and the formation of biofilms using red seaweed to be used as organic packaging materials.

The two invited speakers at the seminar were Associate Professor Dr Mami Irie from Tokyo University of Agriculture Japan and Professor Dr Mukesh Singh (Teerthanker Mahaveer University India).
