BINTULU: Car boot sales held by students of Universiti Putra Malaysia Bintulu Campus (UPMKB) and hawkers around Bintulu help traders market products more effectively and grow their businesses.

A total of 35 students of the Student Entrepreneur Course (QKT2101) were involved in the Putra Bakti Sales Bonet Car Programme which was participated by seven hawkers in Bintulu at the program at the Dewan Sri Kenyalang UPMKB Park Lot here, recently.

One of the student, Hafidz Danial said the initiative to carry out trade activities through the method is more effective even in the short term.

"This is part of the student's effort to provide opportunities for vendors around Bintulu to market products, build and develop business networks with visitors who are also customers on the campus," he said.

Meanwhile, the student from the same course, Arif Haikal said doing business in the car boot is gaining a place among youths and small traders.

"This is evidenced by the enthusiastic response of students and outside visitors to the sales activities," he said, adding that the programme was in collaboration with the Persatuan Peniaga dan Penjaja Sarawak (PPPS) Assyakirin Unit Bintulu.

According to him, among the activities held during the programme were the colourful colour-themed colouring competition, the most beautiful kite, lucky draw, karaoke, cross-country in the campus and so on open.

"On the first day of the program, many outside visitors came to the sales site to buy food," he said. 

Among the foods sold by hawkers are quite unique and rarely found on campus and become the focus is the 'sushi station' as well as the sale of cut fruits with various flavouring powders.

The closing of the programme was officiated by PPPS Assyakirin Unit Chairman, Zulkipli Dahlan who also presented prizes to the winners in several contested events.
