BINTULU: A total of 60 students from Universiti Putra Malaysia Bintulu Campus (UPMKB) participated in the 'Beach Therapy' program at the university campus and Pantai Tanjung Batu, recently.

The program organized by the Association of Peer Guides Academic Session 2023/2024 implemented two activity slots in the morning and evening, namely 'Mindfulness Therapy' and 'Play Therapy' followed by the closing ceremony of the program at night.

A spokesperson for the programme said, 'Mindfulness Therapy' is about the use of the five senses of human taste – hear, look, smell, taste and touch – to objects found on the beach to make connections with participants' lives. 

"'Play Therapy' requires each group of participants to build sandcastles that include houses, trees and people," he said. 

He said each slot was limited to only 30 participants and a sharing session from each slot was held at the closing ceremony of the program.

The invited speaker to handle the program was Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) Trainer Counselor, Sherry Dunstan.

The objective of the program is to enhance students' understanding of the causes and causes of therapy as well as to establish a healthy relationship between mental health and student performance while conducting daily life as a university student.

Meanwhile, Sherry said she was grateful to be able to join the program and it was fun to see the students really explore the essence of the therapy. 

Program director, Farah Syameera Mohd Fairoz said therapy is one of the most effective methods of stress management..

Thus, she said, in the long run a community of harmony and mutual understanding in a society will be created.

UPMKB Counsellor Hairunisah Abdul Rahman said the implementation of the programme for UPMKB students will reveal them how to deal with stress effectively thus making them healthy students of the body and mind.
