THE Putra Bakti@UPMKB Pingpong Open 2023 program recently attracted 46 participants from all ages and places, including from Kuching and Sabah.

The table tennis competition held at the Sri Rajang Hall, Universiti Putra Malaysia Bintulu Campus (UPMKB) on 11 and 12 March was organized by the¬ suitors of the QKS2114 Ping pong Credit Co-curriculum Course for the ¬second semester of the 2022/2023 academic session.

The competition competed in singles only involving Bumiputera and non-Bumiputra players who were divided into eight groups.

Program advisor Mohd Saufi Mohd Ramli said the competition was a case of the ideas of 32 students who attended the table tennis co-curricular course.

The main objective of this program is to provide hands-on exposure to the students to plan and carry out activities that benefit the surrounding community especially in the sport of table tennis.

Indirectly, students will have their own confidence when communicating with each other and outside parties. Through this program, the fans of table tennis can gather to exchange pans and share their skills.

According to Abdul Malik Salaiti, the program director, the competition was organized not only to attract everyone about table tennis but also to discover new talents and provide them with the experience of competing. It can also strengthen the relationship between university staff and table tennis enthusiasts.

"I am happy and grateful to all those who made this program a success," Abdul Malik said.

One of the participants, Abu Bakar Pan, said such competitions should be carried out more frequently as it can help improve the quality of the game.

"Alhamdulillah, the organizers have given the space a lot and the competition is going well. I understand that there are many other table tennis fans out there who are unable to participate in this competition due to their time with personal and work matters," he said.
