BINTULU: A total of 300 tree species are planted by PTT Exploration and Production Public Company Limited (PTTEP) Malaysia in collaboration with Universiti Putra Malaysia Bintulu Campus, Bintulu Progress Board, Natural Resources and Environment Institute and Bintulu Branch Environmental Department here.

PTTEP head of Malaysia Sarawak Asset, Denkey Thatchaichawalit said the initiative was one of the joint environmental conservation efforts.

According to him, PTTEP's involvement in this project demonstrates a commitment to its two main corporate social responsibilities, namely the environment and education.

"Among the 300 species of trees including native trees, fruits and ornamental trees have been planted using notches and high density planting methods which are horticultural practices in accordance with the soil conditions at the planting site.

"Our goal is to protect and nurture a healthy ecosystem especially in the community in Sarawak which is the location of our operations.

"Through this initiative, we educate and promote the importance of nature to mitigate climate change while providing natural habitats for our flora and fauna," he said in a media statement on Friday.

The programme, themed 'Nourish Nature, Nurture Future', is in line with the United Nations sustainable development goals and supports the Sarawak government's initiative to plant 35 million trees in line with the 100 million trees planting campaign 2021-2025 initiated by the Malaysian government.

Tree planting initiatives like this provide an even environmental sustainability impact as they bring key organizations within the community together and provide a platform to spread greater awareness about environmental protection. -Source of News :EDISI UKAS
