148 PARTICIPANTS FROM FOUR COUNTRIES PARTICIPATE IN STUDENT E-MOBILITY PROGRAM ORGANISED BY UPMKB, UNAS

BINTULU: A total of 148 participants from four countries namely Malaysia, Indonesia, Japan and India participated in the online 'International Class Exchange: Exploring Sarawak and Indonesia's Nature and Culture 2023' program, recently.

The program organised by the Borneo Institute of Ecosciences (IEB) Universiti Putra Malaysia Bintulu Campus (UPMKB) in collaboration with the National University (UNAS) Indonesia is a student e-mobility program that took place on October 18 and 19. 

An organiser said the two-day program was carried out online via the Zoom platform and was coordinated by Dr Keeren Sundara Rajoo, program director.

This program was inaugurated by the Director of IEB UPMKB Dr. Syeed Saiful Azry Osman Al-Edrus and Dean of the Faculty of Biology and Agriculture UNAS Dr. Tatang Mitra Setia.

Dr Syeed said cooperation among universities in the Southeast Asian region is important in the face of global challenges and hopes that the program will be a platform for stronger cooperation between UPMKB and UNAS. 

Meanwhile, Dr Tatang expressed his intention to make the program an annual program because the benefits are clear, especially for UPMKB and UNAS students.

The speakers of this programme were IEB UPMKB associate researcher Dr Latifah Omar who explained the native plants used as flavours and spices by the Melanau community, while Dr Keeren presented information on the forestry sector in Malaysia.

Speaking during the closing ceremony, Inkorena Sukartono who represented the Dean of the Faculty of Biology and Agriculture UNAS hoped that the collaboration between UNAS and UPMKB would continue for years to come.

She said it is not only beneficial in terms of student mobility but also in terms of research and teaching.

She said that his party intends to carry out a physical mobility program at UNAS specifically for UPMKB students next year if conditions permit.
