SARAWAK IS COMMITTED TO SUPPORTING THE NATIONAL AGROFOOD POLICY 2021-2030

KUCHING: The Sarawak Government is committed to supporting the National Agrofood Policy 2021-2030 (NAP 2.0) to support the efficient management and modernization of agrofood production. Minister of Food Industry, Commodities and Regional Development Sarawak (M-FICORD) Dato Sri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom said his ministry is also confident that nap 2.0 developed by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry (MAFI) is formulated with a vision to develop a sustainable, resilient, and technology-based agricultural food sector in driving economic growth, improving the well-being of Sarawakians, and prioritizing food security and nutrition.

"One of the initiatives undertaken by the Ministry during the year was the establishment of several boards, one of which was the Sago and Nipah Development Authority (LKSN) earlier this year.

"We hope this can be part of an industry that we can work on in the future and we also set up the Rubber Board," he said. He was speaking at the opening ceremony of the Congress of Sustainable Agriculture and Food Safety (COSAFS2022) which was officiated by Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg at The Waterfront Hotel here on Wednesday.

Dato Sri Dr Stephen Rundi added that another initiative was the paddy transformation project in Gedong, the AgriHub@Gedong which was proposed by Universiti Putra Malaysia Bintulu Campus (UPMKB) in collaboration with Swinburne University and received support from his ministry.

In the meantime, he hopes that the people in the state can work together and drive the agricultural sector towards modern, efficient agriculture and achieve the dream of making Sarawak a Clean Food Exporter by 2030. Among those present at the ceremony were UPM Board of Directors Chairman Tengku Syarif Laksamana Perlis Dato' Seri DiRaja Syed Razlan Syed Putra Jamalullail, Deputy Minister of Food Industry, Commodities and Regional Development Datuk Dr. Abdul Rahman Ismail, Deputy Minister of Food Industry, Commodities and Regional Development Il Martin Ben and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Food Industry, Commodities and Regional Development Sarawak, Datu Edwin Abit.
