PLASTIC POLLUTION in the oceans has become a global problem for humans and aquatic life. In conjunction with World Ocean Day (World Ocean Day) in June, Bachelor of Science (Hons) Aquaculture, Agriaqua Club from the Department of Animal Science and Fisheries, Universiti Putra Malaysia Bintulu Sarawak Campus (UPMKB) has organised the "Clean the Beach" Programme together with the Operations Headquarters of PDRM Marin Region 5, Bintulu, as well as Bintulu Development Authority (BDA) in Bintulu, recently.

WHAT IS THE IMPORTANCE OF CLEANING?

Raising awareness of the damage done to our environment through plastic pollution Reduces plastic waste that hits the oceans and further harms aquatic life brings the problem of plastic pollution to the forefront of people's minds.

An overwhelming response was received from those committed to these environmental efforts, who came and participated as a way to send a message about love for the environment. A total of 47 UPMKB participants, Marine Police Force Region 5, Bintulu and volunteers from Bintulu Development Authority (BDA) were involved in this activity.

WHAT IS THE IMPACT OF CLEANING?

Unite the community (In this program, students, Marine Police, BDA support staff are involved)

Help the environment and remove plastic pollution Protect wildlife by keeping their habitats free from harmful plastics Increase awareness of the negative effects of plastic pollution

Inspiring the community and its experts to continue to make changes in their daily lives to avoid plastic pollution and help with solutions

Cleaning activities around Sungai Kemena near the jetty of the PDRM Marin Operations Headquarters Region 5, Bintulu, were carried out with the participants and managed to collect various types of household waste. Among the rubbish collected include clothes, pipes, baskets, slippers and 'ordinary' rubbish such as plastic, plastic bottles, drinking water boxes, empty cans, containers and food wrappers.
