Students from the Faculty of Tropical Forestry (FPT), Universiti Malaysia Sabah conducted an academic visit for the International and Regional Forestry Course (FS30303) on 8 December 2022 (Thursday).

Among the objectives of the visit was to provide direct exposure to the students on the theory that has been studied in the lectures and subsequently to practice skills or practicalities in the management system conducted at the Institut EkoSains Borneo (IEB).  In addition, students can take a closer look at the native forest areas as well as be exposed to the method of analyzing data and forest management in a sustainable manner. Not only that, but students can also take a closer look at the existing infrastructure facilities as well as the management techniques used in UPMKB.

It is hoped that the results of this partnership will attract UMS students to further their studies and subsequently select the IEB Associate Researcher as the supervisor and IEB Research Officer as a co-supervisor at UPMKB.

Also celebrating the delegation from UMS were Dr. Latifah Omar (Head of the Borneo IEB Biodiversity Laboratory), Dr. Tunung Robin (Head of IEB Borneo Ethnic Laboratory), Dr. Keeren Sundara Rajoo (Senior Lecturer/IEB Associate Researcher) and Dr. Mugunthan Perumal (IEB Senior Research Officer).

The UMS delegation was led by Mr. Musri Ismenyah (Course Coordinator/Lecturer), Puan Hardawati Yahya (Course Lecturer), Mr. Erwa Silin (Laboratory Assistant) and 26 students of the Faculty of Tropical Forestry (FPT).

The Institut EkoSains Borneo welcomes the delegation of Universiti Malaysia Sabah and hopes that this collaboration achieves its objectives and goes smoothly and successfully.
