61 PARTICIPANTS TOOK THE POULTRY FARMING COURSE ORGANIZED BY PPP@UPMKB

PUTRA AGRICULTURAL CENTRE, Universiti Putra Malaysia Bintulu Sarawak Campus (PPP@ UPMKB) has organized a Poultry Farming Course at the 2A UPMKB Central Lecture Hall, recently.

A total of 61 participants from all corners of Sarawak (Bintulu, Miri, Sibu, Limbang, Belaga, Igan, Betong, Sarikei, Kabong, Data Kakus, Mukah, Sebauh, Julau, Pakan and Kapit) apart from Sabah (Sandakan and Semporna), Pahang and even from neighboring countries namely Indonesians working in the state participated in the course.

The meat and eggs of chicken are loved as almost all Malaysians can eat this chicken product. In addition, the increasing public awareness of the importance of nutritious food billing has resulted in the increase in demand for chicken meat and eggs every year.

Becoming a poultry breeder is not difficult. Senior Agriculture Officer, PPP@UPMKB as the coordinator and speaker Dr Carlina Freddie Simol @ Rachellynna explained that the objective of this course is to provide exposure to participants who wish to raise chickens in terms of general needs, preparation of kennels, trawler and daily maintenance until harvesting.

Also shared are the knowledge of chicken health management, preparation and feed production for chickens as well as solutions to problems faced by poultry farmers.

Participants were also exposed during the practice on the processing of eggs for hatching, cutting of chicken beaks as well as methods of vaccinating poultry farming. The practical session was assisted by PPP@ UP¬MKB staff, Jega Jantai and Yusri Drahman.

According to Deputy Director of Putra Agricultural Centre UPMKB, Assoc. Prof Dr Amy Halimah Rajaee, this course is one of a series of courses planned throughout 2023 in realizing the University for Society (U4S) or IPT for Society@Keluarga Malaysia (UNITY) program through an agriculture technology transfer program that focuses on the progress and well-being of the local community especially and the public in line with UPM's sacred motto 'Knowledgeable. With a minimum fee so that the areas of expertise owned by academic officers and non-academic officers of UPMKB can be highlighted and utilized accordingly.

PPP@ UPMKB would like to express its gratitude to Josephine Jawai Makos, Noor Irawati Ahmad, Hazman Mohd Julyhi (secretariat), Muhammad Iqbal Hidayat Brawi (photographer) and all parties involved directly or indirectly in the success of this course.
