Agricultural Technology Transfer Course@UPMKB

INTRODUCTION

The University Agricultural Park Division, Universiti Putra Malaysia Bintulu Sarawak Campus (TPU, UPMKB) which was established on 1 December 2001 is the main driving force of the short-term agriculture and animal husbandry (technology transfer) course at Universiti Putra Malaysia Bintulu Sarawak Campus (UPMKB).

The Putra Agricultural Centre (PPP) formerly known as the University Agricultural Park (TPU) has been rebranded and restructured starting 1 November 2021. In line with Goal 4 in the Strategic Plan 2021-2025 UPM which is to strengthen agriculture and food security resilience, the Putra Agricultural Centre UPMKB has undergone the merger of the management structure with the Putra Agricultural Centre Serdang Campus for the purpose of coordinating more efficient activities and togetherness of actions.

One of the main activities of PPP is to organize technology transfer courses in agriculture. In 2022, 8 out of 9 courses organized were very well received. Therefore, in 2023, PPP will continue to organize such courses after almost 2 years of being affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The efforts of this technology transfer course in agriculture are in line with Objective 4 and Strategy 4.5 in the UPMKB Strategic Plan 2019 – 2023, as well as promoting the sharing of knowledge in agriculture to the outside community in line with UPM's mission of making a meaningful contribution to the formation of prosperity and development of the country as well as universal human well-being through the exploration and dissemination of knowledge.

University for Society (U4S) or IPT for Society@Keluarga Malaysia (UNITY) program through an agricultural technology transfer program that focuses on the progress and well-being of the community.

Apart from conducting courses within the campus, PPP@UPMKB also received invitations to conduct short-term agriculture/breeding courses outside the campus such as in longhouses, in community halls, in the participants' gardens and so on with affordable payment packages. The Putra Agricultural Centre UPMKB also received encouragement and support from the Director of UPMKB Campus, Prof. Dr. Shahrul Razid Sarbini so that such courses can be expanded to the local community especially and the public in line with UPM's sacred motto ‘With Knowledge We Serve’ for a minimum fee so that the areas of expertise owned by academic officers and non-academic officers of UPMKB can be highlighted and used accordingly.
