BINTULU - A working visit of the Chief Minister of Sarawak, the Right Honourable Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg, to UPM Bintulu Campus (UPMKB), Sarawak, took place on December 10, 2021. He was accompanied by the Honourable Dato Sri Dr. Stephen Rundi Anak Utom, Sarawak Minister of Utilities, and the Honourable Datuk Haji Talib Bin Zulpilip, Minister in the Sarawak Chief Minister's Department (Integrity and Ombudsman).

Also present to welcome the visit were the Chairman of the UPM Board of Directors, The Most Hon. Tengku Syarif Laksamana Perlis, Dato' Seri DiRaja Syed Razlan Syed Putra Jamalullai, and also Universiti Putra Malaysia’s (UPM) Vice-Chancellor, the Hon. Prof. Dr. Mohd Roslan Sulaiman.

30 years ago, the Right Hon. Datuk Patinggi planted a Belian species tree (Eusideroxylon Zwageri) as a symbolic tree planted at the Forest Conservation Project site when he held the Sarawak Minister of Industrial Development post on July 15, 1991.

During the working visit, the Right Hon. Datuk Patinggi, together with the Chairman of the Board of Trustees and Universiti Putra Malaysia’s Vice-Chancellor, once again planted the same tree species and this time as the Chief Minister of Sarawak.

He also listened to a briefing on 'UPMKB For Sarawak' presented by Professor Dr. Shahrul Razid Sarbini, Director of UPM Bintulu Sarawak Campus.

UPM presented a picture frame of the memories of the Right Hon. Chief Minister of Sarawak when he planted the Belian tree 30 years ago and also shared the UPM Strategic Plan Book 2021-2025.

Apart from that, he also visited the UPMKB Mini-Exhibition at the Conference Hall and signed a plaque as a symbolic working visit to UPM Bintulu Campus, Sarawak.

In the early morning before starting the working visit, the Right Hon. Chief Minister of Sarawak officiated the opening of the Conference "The International Conference on Forest Resources Management 2021" organised by UPMKB with collaborators at Hotel Promenade, Bintulu.

During the opening ceremony, the Right Hon. Chief Minister of Sarawak announced the allocation of the Forest Resources Research Hub fund to Universiti Putra Malaysia Bintulu Campus worth RM10.95 million.

The allocation of the research hub fund from the Sarawak State Government supports and further strengthens the direction of Universiti Putra Malaysia based on the second goal of the UPM Strategic Plan 2021-2025, namely, Creating a Research and Innovation Hub that Generates Values based on Sustainable Ecosystem. - UPM
