WEBINAR 'IT'S ALL ABOUT TENNIS' FIERCE YOUNG GENERATION CELIK TENNIS

BINTULU 19 March, - The online webminar It's all about Tennis programme  has proven to attract the public's attention by getting a lively response from students of the QKS2111 Tennis co-curriculum course, Semester Two Academic Session 2021/2022, Universiti Putra Malaysia Bintulu Sarawak Campus (UPMKB).

Program director, En. Muhamad Izzuan Bin Abd Rahman said the aim of the programme was to open up opportunities for the community to increase their knowledge of tennis as well as to assist the country in producing new talents as the sport of tennis is currently underserved in the country.

According to the course facilitator Mohd. Saufi Mohd. Ramli said the one-day programme received the cooperation of the Lawn Tennis Association of Malaysia (LTAM) to line up four slots with knowledge sharing from speakers with extensive experience in the field of tennis at the national and overseas levels. He added that the two-pronged programme is designed to provide opportunities and educate students to always strive to contribute to the community even during the pandemic and expose the sport of tennis to the younger generation in particular.

UITM Shah Alam lecturer and former national tennis player, Associate Professor Dr. Mohammad Rahizam Abdul Rahim in his partnership expressed the concept of 3 Ds of Success, which is desire, determination and discipline in his slot entitled From Zero to Hero Tennis to the participants of the programme. 'The combination of these three elements is capable of producing competitive players up to the international level', he added.

The country's best-known tennis player with experience as a second speaker, Ms Jawairiah Noordin said self-confidence and full commitment are the key to success in a game, as well as recounting her experience in tennis starting when she was 7 years old, and representing Malaysia as young as 13. "The main enemy in a competition is yourself, not the opponent in the ring. We have to control ourselves and improve when we play," he said, adding that he is now actively training with the national squad in preparation for the Sea Games in Vietnam in May.

Encik Zulkhairi Mohd Khir, who is the Director of Education and Development Officers in the third slot, explained about the LTAM organization and the efforts that have been and are being carried out to improve the quality of tennis to a higher rank in Malaysia. He added, "Among the efforts to increase the number of players and the quality of tennis games within the country, LTAM with the help of the International Tennis Federation (ITF) has established a nationwide tennis sports development program with objectives including to increase the number of players under 10 years old and increase the participation of students in tennis matches, and malaysian tennis vocational schools".

"To be a good tennis player, you have to play for 2 hours a day. You should also be involved in the matchmaking and also play with better tennis players", advises Encik Zulkhairi.

Last speaker, CEO of Arcadin Services SDN. BHD, Encik Afizal bin Abu Othman said, time management is very important for this athlete because nowadays young athletes do part-time work while playing sports. Therefore, time management is very important to apply among young athletes. "Involvement in sports does not prevent a player from succeeding in the field of education", he said, who sacrificed a lot of time and energy while representing the country in tennis.

The tennis quiz ended the programme with the participation of 54 people who offered attractive prizes to the participants. The winner of this quiz was Katerina anak Antalai while 2nd place was won by Nur Azreen Zulaikha binti Zamri and 3rd place was won by Azwanliewandi bin Charlie Caesa.

This programme is one of a series of programmes organised by students of Universiti Putra Malaysia Bintulu Campus to assist in the sharing of knowledge with the outside community which is held regularly.
