University Agricultural Park (TPU), Universiti Putra Malaysia Bintulu Sarawak Campus (UPMKB) has organized an Oyster Mushroom Cultivation Course on 3 October 2020 at Universiti Putra Malaysia Bintulu Sarawak Campus. Director of UPMKB University Agricultural and Development Park (TPUP) Dr. Ong Kian Huat commented that UPMKB has designed this course which is included in the University4Society program in 2020 with a focus on sharing agricultural knowledge and development with the public.

The objective of this training course according to Mr. Nalong Buda, Head of TPU is to:

(i) fulfill the government's recommendation to further improve the agricultural industry in Malaysia, especially in Sarawak;

(ii) apply entrepreneurial characteristics to farmers to become successful entrepreneurs and

(iii) provide theoretical and practical understanding to the public regarding livestock management. Course chairman, Mr. Sylvester Igak Kana, said that the contents of this course are to:

1. Learn how to grow oyster mushrooms for commercial purposes.

2. Expose course participants to knowledge on the basics of oyster mushroom cultivation such as selection and preparation of media as well as basic planting materials.

3. Learn the proper method for oyster mushroom crops management.

Mr. Dexter Elvin Menari, Assistant Registrar of TPUP commented that this training course has received the participation of 38 participants from all over Sarawak, with lectures and practical classes conducted by instructors and experts from UPMKB.
