UPM, THE FIRST PUBLIC HIGHER LEARNING INSTITUTION HAVE THREE UNITS OF SCOUTS (LAND, AIR AND SEA)

SERDANG, March 23 - Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) Vice Chancellor, Prof.Datin Paduka Dato' Dr. Aini Ideris received the Rajawali Silver (Silver Hawk Medal Air Scout) medal from the Malaysian Scouts Association at the Appreciation event and Launching Ceremony of UPM Air and Sea Scouts in Dewan Kompleks Mahasiswa UPM.

The event organized by Malaysian Rovers Training Group (KLKM), UPM District, UPM Student Affairs Division in collaboration with the UPM Co-Curriculum and Student Development Center

The medal was delivered by Major General Prof. Dato Dr. Zin Bidin, Chief of National Scout Commissioner.

He said the Rajawali Silver Medal was the second highest medal in the Air Scout unit.

"The medal was awarded to Datin Paduka for his contribution as the President of the UPM KLKM Scout Council.

"With the services of Prof Aini forming Air Scouts and Sea Scouts at UPM, it makes UPM as the country's first Public Higher Learning Institution to have three units of Scouts ie land, air and sea," said Prof. Zin again.

The ceremony was also attended by Deputy Vice Chancellor Student Affair and Alumni, Prof. Dr. Mohd Roslan Sulaiman, KLKM State Scout Commissioner, UPM District Scout Commissioner, UPM senior officer, scout leader and trainer, KLMM Alumni, staff of UPK KLKM and Scouts from outside.

Prof. Madya Dr. Paramasivam Muthusamy, UPM KLKM Advisory District Scout Commissioner said KLKM Group was established in 1987 with the preliminary name of the Scout Leader Training Group (KLPP) comprising 28 students from Universiti Sains Malaysia and Universiti Pertanian Malaysia.

"UPM KLKM is actively involved in organizing and participating in several state and national KLKM programs.

"UPM establish 2 new units of Air Scouts at the Serdang Campus and Sea Scouts at Bintulu Campus," Dr. Param said.

He said the establishment was to attract students to join "value added" uniforms bodies and make them become holistic graduates.

The other guests were Prof. Associate Professor Dr.Abdul Rashid Mohamad, Head of the KLKM State Scout Commissioner as well as UPM Serdang and Bintulu Campus student.
