On 19 November 2018, fire burn down Uma Bakong in Belaga. Realizing that new school session is coming up in January 2019 and school children involved in the longhouse fire need schooling supplies and stationaries, Malaysia Red Crescent (MRC) of Universiti Putra Malaysia Bintulu Sarawak Campus (UPMBSC) organized a donation drive to collect money to provide school bag and other essential for affected children in order to reduce burden to their family and to bring cheer of new year.
Miss Siti Fatimah was the organizing chairman for the donation drive. MRC UPMBSC managed to collect money from generous students and staff of UPMBSC within 10 days of the donation drive. The donation collected is mean to provide 30 sets of school bag and essential (bag, pencils, ruler, drinking bottle, colouring pencils, eraser, file, and pens).
“Farley Mini Market Bintulu is generous enough to cover the shortfall in collection to provide enough school bag and other essential for this project.” This according to the President of MRC UPMBSC, Miss Loo Pei Yi (å¢ç®ç‘œ).
"Members of MRC UPMBSC work hard to collect money for this project. They really show their loving and caring attitude. The project also encourage spirit of volunteerism among the members.” This according to the advisor of MRC UPMBSC, Dr. Ong Kian Huat.
