BINTULU - Unity is a universal issue that we should care about together. Weak unity will not only affect the sustainability and prosperity of a country but will also have a profound impact on the progress of a country. Coupled with the sophisticated times, the issue of unity among the community is the main agenda of discussion in the mainstream as well as social media. Unity is highly respected in a community as it is a key pillar in ensuring and achieving the well-being of the residents. Looking at this scenario, students of Bakti Pelajar (Group 1), Second Semester 2021/2022 in collaboration with the Housing Unit, Bahagan Administration, Universiti Putra Malaysia Bintulu Sarawak Campus intends to organize the Putra Bakti @Help, Give & Take Programme  which will focus on the theme of unity in the community targeting the UPMKB community.

Abang Mohamad Adam Hakimi Bin Abdullah Abang Mohamad Zahiruddin Programme Director said the spirit of group cooperation and ogcitization skills were the main focus of the participants during the programme. He added that such enthusiasm is seen to be shrinking in students as most students go through online learning and teaching for several semesters due to the pandemic and the lack of face-to-face activities during the period. He hopes that all the experience gained by the 70 participants during the programme can be benefited by them during their stay on campus and more face-to-face programmes will be carried out as the country moves to the Endimic Transition Phase on April 1.

The programme, which was implemented on 26 and 27 March 2022, includes two main programme activities, namely gotong-royong around the flat Putra Permai staff housing UPMKB as well as a cheerful programme at the Orchid Park of the Putra Agricultural Centre UPMKB. Among the activities carried out were cleaning works around the staff residential blocks, reorganization of used materials and disposal of unnecessary materials.

In the meantime, Programme Advisor Facilitator of the QKK2101 Course Bakti Pelajar (Group 1), (Professional Technologist) Dr. Suhaili Mustafa said, organising such programmes is very effective for students in strengthening the Soft Skills in themselves such as improving their skills in communication, exposure and experience to students to organize programmes, strengthening leadership qualities and responsible values in  in the soul of each student and also opens the perspective of the students to always be positive as well as inculcating the spirit of cooperation and mutual assistance among students. These skills are very important for the students in facing the challenges of the present and also in preparation for their graduation. He also stressed that the management of such programmes is very good in creating a more responsible society in creating a more harmonious community in line with the rapid development of technology today.
