MIRI: Sarawak Oil Palms Berhad (SOP) donated RM10,000 to Universiti Putra Malaysia, Kampus Bintulu (UPMKB) for the purchase of one unit of ambulance for the students’ use in campus.
SOP controller-operations, Kiu Kwong Chiang who handed over the cash contribution to UPMB campus director, Professor Dr Shahrul Razid Sarbini on May 26, said SOP emphasizes the importance of education and expressed SOP’s hope that their small contribution would support the university’s efforts to promote welfare and wellbeing of the students.
“The purchase of the new ambulance is to replace the old existing van which is already beyond its life span and uneconomical to be maintained, and we would want the university students to benefit from this little contribution,” Kiu said in a statement.
As a corporate firm, SOP aims to be among the contributors to local community development that contributes to the needs and wellbeing of the communities in the areas of employment, education and healthcare, among others, he added.
