BINTULU, Oct 10 - Pro Chancellor of Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Tan Sri Mohd Bakke Saleh, who is also President and Group Chief Executive of Sime Darby Berhad, imparted his corporate knowledge and experience to students and staff of UPM Bintulu branch campus, today.
The talk organized by UPM’s Pusat Hubungan dan Jaringan Industri (CiRNeT) at Dewan Sri Kenyalang of the Faculty of Agriculture Science and Food at the Bintulu branch campus, was held in conjunction with the CEO@Faculty Programme series.
The programme was conducted in line with the Malaysian Education Development Plan (Higher Education) (PPM (PT) to enhance students’ attributes and produce balance and holistic graduates who are skilful in entrepreneurship through their involvement in the industry.
Tan Sri Bakke shared his personal and professional experience with UPMKB students, particularly on Sime Darby’s role as the largest plantation company, in contributing towards the country and the importance of agriculture studies in ensuring continuity of our life.
The corporate figure also advised students to remain humble and not to allow themselves to be swayed by their high position, salary or other materialistic gains that could affect their personality and value of simplicity.
His other reminder was that workers should focus on any decision that had been made for successful implementation of plans. “Do not always come up with excuses in any work assigned to you or blame others, always be innovative for that impactful and productive work.”
Under CEO@Faculty Programme, UPM had accepted the appointments of CEOs for the year 2016/2017 – Communication and Multimedia Ministry Secretary-General, Datuk Seri Dr Sharifah Zarah Syed Ahmad, President and Group Chief Executive of Sime Darby Berhad, Tan Sri Mohd Bakke Salleh, Chief Executive Officer of AirAsia, Tan Sri Tony Fernandes and Chief Executive of Boustead Plantation Berhad, Fahmy Ismail.
On April 19 this year through the same programme, Tan Sri Tony Fernandes shared his experience with students and staff at UPM main campus in Serdang.
The function of appointed CEOs under the programme is to share their experience and knowledge in relation to the corporate world, with UPM students and staff.
In addition, they will help shape and guide UPM students to enhance employability and personal development in a holistic manner.
Also present were UPM Vice-Chancellor, Prof Datin Paduka Dr Aini Ideris, member of the Board of Directors of UPM, Datuk Mohidden Ishak, Sarawak Assistant Minister for Infrastructure Development/Assistant Minister for Urbanization, Datuk Talib Zulpilip and Political Secretary to Bintulu Member of Parliament, Zaiedy Nor.
Tan Sri Mohd Bakke also planted a Belian (Lauraceae) tree in front of Dewan Sri Kenyalang to mark the end of the event.
