STUDENTS WITH BINTULU ZONE COMMUNITY PROGRAM
The Students with Community Program is a program organized by the Ministry of Education Malaysia (MOE) conducted around Sarawak in conjunction with this month of independence. Five (5) zones have been selected as volunteer sites for students in Sarawak, namely Bintulu, Miri, Sibu, Betong and Kuching. This activity is to provide assistance to local villagers as well as to expose the community of skills available within the Institute of Higher Education in Sarawak.
For Bintulu Zone, 30 students from UPM Bintulu Campus have been involved in this program which was held on September 15, 2018 (Saturday), at Kampung Kuala Segan, Bintulu. UPM Bintulu Campus (UPMKB) has hosted several programs throughout the day including academic workshops slot (English, Mathematics and Science) for primary school students, academic upgrading slot for secondary school students and parents, integrity forum slot for villagers and skill upgrades (cooking, sewing and beauty) slot for women. Program slot filling is done by lecturers and staff of UPMKB and KEMAS. To further enhance the value of volunteers, patriotism and integrity of students, they have also organized activities to clean and repair community halls and planting fruit trees as a contribution to the villagers.
The essence of this program is to give students exposure in applying the learned knowledge by training their own soft skills in the future to the goal of MOE as the organizer of this program to form students who have patriotism, high volunteers, caring, love and mutual respect each other. In addition it can also leave a positive impact on the local community.
