SARAWAK INTERNATIONAL DAY OF FOREST 2019

Sarawak International Day of Forest 2019 event was held on March 23 at Dewan Seri Kenyalang, Universiti Putra Malaysia Bintulu Sarawak Campus(UPMKB).

According to his press release yesterday, since the United Nations (UN) was introduced in 1971, Sarawak was the first in Malaysia to celebrate it in 1974. The celebration was the 45th anniversary in Sarawak.

The celebration will be officiated by Deputy Chief Minister cum Minister of Urban Development and Natural Resources II and Minister of Industrial Development and Entrepreneur, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan.

The theme of this year's celebration is 'Forest and Education' which looks closely to the aspirations of the government who want development in the state, especially in urban areas, with the support of sustainable forest management.

Well-preserved forests are capable of ensuring that the natural ecosystem works perfectly like the release of sufficient oxygen gas to compensate for the release of carbon dioxide gas caused by human activity.

In addition, it can reduce the incidence of natural disasters such as major floods and landslides, as well as providing clean water resources for daily use.

A total of 600 attendees, among them, heads of government and private departments, community leaders, teachers and students.

Many celebration activities for this period are such tree planting activity around Bintulu city as a result of the Sarawak Forest Department joint venture with the Bintulu District Education Office, book launches, exhibits by forestry agencies, health screening and sports.
