NYUNGKAKKA PENEMU : THE DIRECTION OF FORESTRY RESEARCH IN MALAYSIA, KNOWLEDGE SHARING ON FORESTRY RESEARCH IN MALAYSIA

“Nyungkakka Penemu” is a word derived from the Iban language which means Increasing Knowledge / Boosting Knowledge / Empowering Knowledge. The Nyungkakka Penemu program is conducted virtually by the Department of Forestry Science, Faculty of Agricultural and Forestry Science, UPM Bintulu Sarawak Campus.

The first series of the Nyungkakka Penemu programme entitled " The Direction of Forestry Research in Malaysia" was successfully organized on 31 March 2021. The latest instalment aims to share knowledge related to research in the field of forestry in Malaysia.

This Webinar session has invited two panel members with experience in the field of forestry, namely The Felicitous Datu Hamden bin Hj. Mohammad cum Sarawak Forest Director and Yang Berusaha Dr. Ismail bin Parlan, Director of Forestry and Environment, Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM) and the moderator for this program is the Deputy Dean (Research and Funding), Dr. Roland Kueh Jui Heng. The Webinar session, which was held live through the Cisco Webex and Facebook applications, attracted 279 participants from various government and private agencies as well as local researchers and university students from across the country. The two-hour session provided a wealth of information on the functions of the Sarawak Forest Department and FRIM as well as the role played by both agencies in supporting forestry research in Malaysia. The panel members also touched on the challenges and opportunities in the field of forestry research and answered some questions raised by the participants.
