Goat farming is still small industry in Sarawak. If manage it correctly this activity able to generate wholesome income to farmer. Raising goat do not need large area. A minima of 1.2 ha is good enough. However, the successful of goat farming depend on ability to prepare nutritional feed with low management cost. Demand for goat produce in the market is high. Price for meat and milk is high due to low supply.
This basis training course is organize to share UPM Bintulu Sarawak Campus knowledge and experience in raising goat for the past 12 years. We currently have a stock of 27 goats. We have 4 experts in animal science (2 with PhD and one trained as veterinary doctor) and 3 of them were involved in this training. This program also part of our community service activity for the local to assist them in improving their livelihood and create new business venture.
The one day basis course was organized on 6 October 2018 at UPM Bintulu Sarawak Campus from 8 am to 5 pm. This one day short course involve theory and practical in the field. The course was conducted by Dr. Zaidi Suif, Dr. Masnindah Malahubban, Dr. Juriah Kamaludden and staff of University Agriculture Park. This is the third time we organized this course. The participation of current program is very encouraging. A total of 43 person participated. They were from Bintulu, Kuching, Sri Aman, Sarikei, Kabong, Mukah, Sibu, Miri, and Bekenu.
