Production of Organic-Based Fertilizer from Decanter Cake, Bunch Ash, and Palm Oil Mill Effluent

D) Production of Organic-Based Fertilizer from Decanter Cake, Bunch Ash, and Palm Oil Mill Effluent

Introduction:

We focus on improving soil and plant productivity using organic and inorganic materials which are in harmony with the environment. In the tropics, soil and crop productivity is challenged partly because of soil acidity, and aluminium and iron toxicity. Many research attempts to mitigate these problems have not yielded the desired goals. Our approach is using agro-wastes to produce soil conditioners to condition or detoxify infertile soils with the hope of improving their agronomic qualities for production agriculture. We are making progress in improving soil and selected crops such as maize, rice, and okra productivity using organic amendments which are produced from agro-wastes. Also, we have graduated students, won research awards, and had published a number of research papers and books.
