From the University Putra Malaysia Bintulu Campus Director's Desk

In the name of God, Most Gracious, Most Merciful,

Assalamualaikum W.B.T. and welcome to the official website of Universiti Putra Malaysia Bintulu Sarawak Campus.

Universiti Putra Malaysia Bintulu Sarawak Campus (UPMKB) is the oldest university in East Malaysia, established since 1974 initially known as the Semenggok Agricultural Institute, Kuching, Sarawak. In 1987, UPMKB officially relocated to Bintulu, Sarawak. UPMKB has undergone various transformations, in line with the educational needs of the country, the state of Sarawak and the Borneo region. Having started with only 2 Diploma programs, UPMKB is now offering 9 Diploma programs, 5 Bachelor programs, and 51 areas of expertise for Master and PhD programs by research. Apart from that, UPMKB also offers a Diploma Preparation program to aspiring students wanting to rejoin the mainstream system of higher education.

UPMKB is the only Research University in East Malaysia, subsumed under the main campus in Serdang. Various efforts have been and are being mobilized to mould UPMKB into a campus of international repute. To strengthen UPMKB's role as a research and education hub, 3 new entities have been established in 2020. The Borneo Science Ecosystem Institute (IEB) has been established to explore beneficial research, especially in agriculture and forestry. Additionally, 2 new faculties, namely the Faculty of Agricultural and Forestry Sciences (FSPH) and the Faculty of Humanities, Management and Science (FKPS) were established this year to support UPMKB's expansion efforts.

To strengthen excellent development and administration, UPMKB's strategic plan 2019 - 2023 has been developed targeting UPMKB's 5 main thrusts, namely, Agriculture; Forestry, Renewable Energy; Industrial Chemistry and; Social Economics. This thrust is in line with the demands and expectations of the industry in obtaining a quality workforce, where UPMKB can produce graduates with the desired human capital and marketability.

Along with the motto of UPMKB, "Berilmu Berbakti", we are very excited to contribute existing expertise through our industry and community networks. All UPMKB staff are active in high-impact programs, community development and technology transfer as well as community service activities. This is because we believe that a balanced application of knowledge will produce significant progress, both for UPMKB and the surrounding community.

The beauty of the green and idyllic campus is one of many attractions UPMKB has to offer. Pursuing a balanced approach in academic and co-curricular activities, all in the backdrop of conducive teaching and learning environment, we believe UPMKB students and graduates can be hopeful, sovereign and resilient individuals who are primed to face the challenges of the future.

Finally, we at UPMKB warmly welcome you; students, lecturers, researchers, as well as those who aspire to be UPMKB's strategic partners who share the same values to produce quality outputs while serving the global community.
